IOWA CITY, Iowa — If music provides a prism to a person’s soul, then Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras has a wider assortment of shades, sizes and preferences than most humans, let alone people of his age group.
At the 2019 Holiday Bowl dinner, Petras riffed a few lines from Dr. Dre and 2Pac’s “California Love” before a full audience. Nobody is a bigger Tyler Childers fan than Petras, who couldn’t wait to tell reporters at the San Diego Zoo on that trip that he secured tickets to Childers’ Nashville concert two months later.
Petras comes from San Rafael, Calif., home of Jerry Garcia, the iconic former lead singer of the Grateful Dead.
