The South Delta Rams are hosting a Girls Flag Football Day this Saturday at Dennison Park in Tsawwassen.
The free session, scheduled to run from 1-to-2:30 p.m., will be led by Rams coaches, members of a Vancouver Adult Women’s Flag Football League and a representative of the B.C. Provincial Football Association. A barbecue will follow.
This will be an ideal opportunity for girls to become involved in flag football and to learn skills in a fun and safe setting. The Rams are gearing up for their inaugural girls’ flag football team in the spring of 2022 and would love for potential players to join them.
Interest in flag football has surged across the country in recent years and it’s easy to see why.
The small-sided games mean players are engaged on every single play. The foot work — whether it be running pass routes or providing one-on-one defensive coverage — makes it a terrific cross-training activity for such other sports as hockey, lacrosse and basketball. As does the eye and hand coordination required for catching or knocking down balls.
Equipment cost is minimal.
The event is open to any self-identifying girl age 4-to-18 with no experience necessary. To register email southdeltafootball@gmail.com.
