Corning Recreation looks to hold its first year of coed Youth Flag Football League.
“Corning has never had a youth flag football league to my knowledge, and I thought it would be something fun for the youth in our community,” said Chrissy Meeds, planner 2 and recreation coordinator 2. “I think a lot of kids don’t play Pop Warner football due to the cost and possible injuries, so this is a fun way to teach the fundamentals of the game of football at an affordable price with no tackling.”
The league will be for ages kindergarten to eighth grade, for both boys and girls and played under the NFL Flag Football rules.
Teams will be made up of 10 kids per team ages as follows: Kindergarten, 1st – 2nd grade, 3rd – 4th grade, 5th – 6th grade and 7th – 8th grade.
The number of teams will depend on registration numbers.
Teams will be allowed to practice one day a week with games being played on Saturdays.
Games will begin in June and continue into July.
Registration will begin March 1 at www.corning.org.
