Winter ideas at the library; flag football signups

With Florida Winter in full swing, it’s a good thing to look for indoor activities. Look no further than the Poinciana Library.

For example, on Saturday from 2-3 p.m., adults can practice their artistic style. Paint by Sticker creates a work of art using just stickers. Supplies will be provided by the Library.

The Chess Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 1 from 5-7 p.m. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Learn a new strategy, test your skills and meet fellow chess enthusiasts while playing the most popular game in the world.

All Library programs are free and open to the public.

Also at the library, NOMI Health walk-up COVID testing will be provided in the parking area the next two Wednesdays (Feb. 2 and 9) from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Appointments are not necessary for the free testing however, patients may pre-register their information at http:// signup/fl.

The inaugural youth Flag Football Combine/ Skills Challenge for children in kindergarten through sixth grade will be on Saturday, March 5 at Poinciana Community Park (5109 Allegheny Rd.), hosted by the Poinciana Athletic League. Participants can test their speed, strength, agility and football skills.

Players will be evaluated in the 40-yard dash and a pro agility run, power (vertical jump, broad jump) and skill (throwing distance, throwing accuracy, running agility). Awards will be given for top three in each age group. This event is free. You must be registered prior to the event; go online at PALCOMBINE.

The following Monday (March 7), the 2022 Poinciana Youth Flag Football League (PYFFL) season begins. The fee to participate is $100 ($125 after Feb. 28th). Registration is open for boys and girls ages 7-14 (limited roster slots are available, so register soon). Custom 2-piece jersey sets will be provided. The season runs through May 28.

Kids will play within their age group, with two practices and one game per week.
