VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation announce the reopening of facilities and programs that were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic as well as event cancellations.
The following activities at recreation centers are scheduled to begin as early as July 20:
- Increased reservations for lap swim
- Aquatracks, family swim, water exercise classes and diving boards
- Some senior-focused fitness programs
- Personal training
- Walking tracks at Kempsville and Williams Farm
Reservations for most of the activities will begin on July 17.
Basketball and volleyball courts at city parks are currently open. All playgrounds including those large destination sites at Mount Trashmore Kid’s Cove, Bayville Farms Park, and Grommet Island are also currently open.
Starting July 22, athletic fields at Red Mill Farms, Lynnhaven Park, Bayville Farms Park and Oceana Park have been approved to increase from 50% capacity to full capacity for local practices and play.
The Virginia Beach Sports Management Unit approved to offer youth flag football, youth fast pitch softball and adult slow pitch softball for the fall and is awaiting approval to offer adult coed sand football at the oceanfront. Youth volleyball and tackle football will not be offered this fall, according to the department.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Party at the Pier event originally scheduled fro August 28 at Little Island Park is now canceled. The Water Lantern Festival originally scheduled for October 10 at Mount Trashmore is also canceled.
