This week, all four area teams competed in the GHSA Area 2 Flag Football Tournament.
At stake were eight teams playing for four berths in the state playoffs. After the dust settled, the East Coweta Lady Indians, Trinity Christian Lady Lions, and the Northgate Lady Vikings qualified to move on.
East Coweta and Trinity Christian hosted the first round on Tuesday, while the final four was back at Trinity Christian on Thursday night. It would take three wins to win the top seed in the area and two wins to qualify for the playoffs.
The East Coweta Indians swept their two home games on Tuesday against Starr’s Mill and Northgate, while the Whitewater Lady Wildcats won the Trinity Christian bracket with wins against Fayette County and the Lady Lions.
Whitewater defeated East Coweta for the area championship on Thursday, while Trinity Christian beat Northgate in the third-place game. That left the final seeding with Whitewater as the top and a host of first-round playoff games. East Coweta (12-6) earned the two seed, Trinity Christian came away as the third seed, and Northgate was back in the state playoffs as the fourth seed.
The first and second rounds of the state playoffs start the first week of December. East Coweta will travel to Forsyth, Georgia, to face the Mary Persons Lady Bulldogs (13-3-1). The Lady Vikings (7-8) will go to McDonough to play the undefeated Lady Warhawks (15-0).
Trinity Christian (15-5) will play the Locust Grove Lady Wildcats (15-2) at Jonesboro High School.
The Flag Football State Championship games are included in the schedule with the boy’s football state championship game at Mercedes Benz Stadium, from December 12 through December 14.
