A patient with an apparent short temper was arrested and charged for an unprovoked attack on a New Jersey emergency room doctor.
On March 30, 2020, right at the beginning of the Covid pandemic, a woman went into Capital Health at Deborah to the emergency room at the hospital in Pemberton complaining of a migraine headache, and that she may have been struck by lightning.
Naturally, the physician went to evaluate and check on the woman, but when she did, 48-year old Shelly Webb of Browns Mills punched her in the abdomen.
The attack brought Pemberton Police to the scene.
On Thursday, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced that Webb was indicted for attacking an emergency room doctor at a Pemberton Township hospital.
Webb was indicted on a single count of Aggravated Assault (Fourth Degree), which was returned on January 20 and signed by Burlington County First Assistant Prosecutor Philip S. Aronow.
“Given the dramatic rise since the beginning of the pandemic in violent incidents against health care workers – who already put their health at risk in the service of others simply by coming to work – we will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach toward assaults on employees of health care facilities,” Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a written statement.
Prosecutor Coffina said that the investigation was conducted by the Pemberton Township Police Department.
