Marshall County Marshals flag football team took the silver medal in their division Saturday at the Special Olympics Kentucky State Flag Football Tournament in Lexington at Tates Creek High School. Seventeen teams from all over the state participated in the state title. The event had over 150 players and around 50 volunteers.
“All of these teams have competed through three regional flag football tournaments that we had back in October,” said Hunter Brislin, director of sports and competition.
The Marshals beat the Brandenburg Twisters 22-20 in the opening game but then fell 24-8 to the Pitt Bearcats from Louisville.
According to a release by Mark Buerger, director of communications and external relations for Kentucky Special Olympics it is expected that several of the members of the Marshall County team will compete as members of Team Kentucky at the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games next June.
Members of the Marshall County Marshals flag football team include Aaron Morrison, Jacob Dunn, Cheyenne Byrd, Chris Capone, Cheryl Chessnutt, Hunter Morrison, Ryan Morrison, Jamus Davio, Jamon Butler and Edward Burkeen. The Marshals are coached by Jonny Byrd.
