Mainland punched its ticket to the Florida High School Athletic Association’s flag football playoffs Wednesday night, guaranteeing a first-round home game with a 20-12 victory over Jones in the District 10-1A final.
In three district tournament games, Bucs quarterback Alexa Wilson threw for 445 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. The senior ran nine times for 106 yards and a pair of scores in the championship showdown against the top-seeded Tigers.
Kassi Stoner caught seven passes for 86 yards in the final, and Tania Bolden recorded four sacks to increase her team lead to 16 for the season.
Mainland (12-4) will enter the postseason on an eight-game winning streak.
That includes handing Spruce Creek its first defeat on April 19. The Hawks (12-2) advanced to the final of the District 3-2A tournament but fell 25-0 to Fleming Island.
Spruce Creek scored 59 unanswered points against its quarterfinal and semifinal opponents, Atlantic Coast and New Smyrna Beach.
The Hawks will earn a regional wild card in the FHSAA’s revised regional playoff format, while the ‘Cudas (10-7) sit perilously on the bubble — not helped by the fact that Winter Park upset top-seeded Timber Creek for the title in District 4-2A.

Seabreeze (11-6) and Pine Ridge (11-6) will have to hope the math works in their favor in order to leapfrog the loser of Friday’s District 11-1A final between Lincoln Park Academy and Okeechobee.
Final flag football rankings will be released, weather permitting, around noon on Saturday.
