LAHAINA — The next generation of gridiron glory is on the rise as the Lahaina Chiefs 10 and Under Flag Football team clinched the 2023 Maui Police Athletic League with a thrilling 19-13, come-from-behind victory over the Upcountry Dolphins two weeks ago at the Central Maui Regional Sports Complex.
Guided by co-head coaches Jordan Cabanilla and John Lacuesta, the Chiefs blazed their way through the season with but one loss — to these same Upcountry Dolphins — to set up the championship showdown on April 13. The Chiefs defeated the Bills in the championship semi-finals to set up the showdown with the Dolphins.
The Chiefs win clinched the 10U title and qualified the Lahaina team for the National Football League Youth Flag Football Western Regionals set for Las Vegas starting on June 4. The Chiefs are preparing for the journey and raising funds to offset costs for the trip. Please contact coach Jordan at (808) 276-9509 if you would like to help the team out.
The team consists of 17 players ages 9-10, all with several years under the coaching staff of Cabanilla and Lacuesta. Practice began in January and the season kicked off on Feb. 2.
The Chiefs finished the season with a 6-1 record to clinch the MPAL 10U 2023 championship.
The Lahaina Chiefs 10U coaches and players would like to mahalo the parents and community for their love and support of these amazing athletes.
