Jaguars PREP teams up with City Streets 2 Student Athletes for 3rd Annual Turkey Giveaway and Bowl Game

This Thanksgiving, Jaguars PREP teamed up with City Streets 2 Student Athletes for its annual Turkey Giveaway and Bowl Game. This much-anticipated community event hosted at Atlantic Coast High School celebrated its third year of bringing football and the community together.

This year, City Streets 2 Student Athletes took a different approach by teaming up with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. With the help of 12 officers, including Sheriff T.K. Waters, CS2SA was able to help distribute more than 100 turkeys across the city of Jacksonville. Each officer pre-selected families in the most vulnerable communities, packed up their police cruisers and while on their routes, officers distributed the turkeys to families before the Thanksgiving holiday.

“This annual event is one way we jump-start the holiday season and help law enforcement engage with the community in a positive light,” said Rodney Blunt, Founder and President of City Streets 2 Student-Athletes. “When you have football, fun, cops and coaches all in one place, it’s powerful and a great way to bridge the relationship between law enforcement and the community.”

Blunt’s former Clemson teammate and Jaguars Defensive Line Coach Brentson Buckner, addressed the athletes ahead of the Bowl Game and stressed the importance of staying focused on winning the game of life by making positive choices and encouraged athletes to share their stories to help others. The 4v4 and 5v5 flag football tournament drew in more than 26 teams that played in youth and adult divisions and competed for divisional championship rings, sponsored by the Jaguars Foundation.

“The Jaguars are proud to support City Streets 2 Student-Athletes and their work in being a positive influence on athletes in our community,” said Adriel Rocha, Director of the Jaguars Foundation and Community Impact. “This event hits on two Jaguars Foundation pillars, youth development and building stronger neighborhoods, and together we can continue making a positive impact in our community.”

City Streets 2 Student Athletes’ mission is to deter athletic students from drugs and crime in the city streets and develop them into productive student-athletes.
