For the second year, Gulf Coast Flag Football held a toy drive to do its part in getting local kids their Christmas presents.
Players from all over the southeast, like Florida and Louisiana, came to Biloxi for the weekend with toys in tow.
The all-day tournament on Sunday is the second that Gulf Coast Flag Football has hosted.
The non-contact sport has become a popular intramural activity for adults as it demands a higher level of agility and footwork than does a full-contact game of ball.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Dragons Head Coach Joshua Heppel says it is the spirit of competition and giving that brought teams to Biloxi this weekend. “Some of the better flag teams in the country are down here in the southeastern portion along the Coast, and they want to play against the best. So come down here and play with the best.”
Gulf Coast Flag Football Head Coach Terrell Sutton said, “If you’ve been watching lately, a lot of people have been reluctant to let their kids play tackle, so a lot of people are moving towards seven-man flag, flag football, stuff like that. Because it’s non-contact, it works on your skills. So, the appeal for a lot of people is the fact that it’s non-contact, it’s fast-paced, you have a running clock, it’s just fun, man. Keeps your juices going.”
Gulf Coast Flag Football is looking for players to get together weekly starting in January.
