Summary: Chief Sealth, Ingraham, Nathan Hale, and Rainier Beach all currently have high school girls flag football teams.
SPS girls flag football teams hit the bonus new member 100% (slot game) field for a jamboree at Memorial Stadium on Sunday, February 6. The teams were out in full force and spent the day practicing skills, competing, and enjoying music from official Seattle Seahawks DJ Supa Sam.
The jamboree also included a combine managed by Seattle Majestic players, a performance by Blue Thunder—the Seahawks drumline—a meet and greet with Seahawks Dancers, and a surprise welcome from Seahawks cornerback Tre Brown.
SPS recently formed a high school girls flag football league with support from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). The Seahawks have committed to $250,000 in grant funding over the next five years to the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) to support the creation of high school girls flag football programs across the state. Nike committed an additional $100,000 in product donations to the WIAA, to provide schools with uniforms, socks, and other accessories.
“Seattle Public Schools is proud to partner with the Seattle Seahawks and is very grateful for this opportunity,” SPS Assistant Director of Athletics Alvertis Brooks Jr. said. “This support will expand opportunities available for our students as they pursue their athletic and academic endeavors.”
Currently, there are four SPS high school girls flag football teams. This includes Chief Sealth, Ingraham, Nathan Hale, and Rainier Beach high schools. SPS Athletics continues to work with district schools to expand girls flag football programs to additional high school campuses.
Special thanks to Underdog Sports League for providing quality officials for the event.
