DANVILLE, ILL (WCIA)– The IHSA is opening up the football field to more possibilities.
Yesterday, we told you girls flag football will debut as an official sport this fall. Danville High School is one of many looking forward to playing this year.
School officials say an overwhelming number of girls showed interest. So, they decided to make the possibility a reality.
“With all of the logistics and all of the things that are needed by August, so it looks like the year 25-26 will bring on even more schools,” said Mark Bacys, Danville Facilitator of District Athletics. “As we’ve talked to schools in the conference, that seems to be when they’re hoping to come on.”
Bacys says Illinois is the ninth state to approve girls flag football as an official sport. He believes this will also create more scholarship opportunities for the students.
