The Benicia High School boys basketball team edged Sacramento High 55-53 on Thursday in the third-place game of the Pleasant Grove tournament in Elk Grove.
Stephen Ransom had 15 points and 13 rebounds and Eric Mills had 14 points and four 3-pointers for the Panthers (7-4). E’Jay Rogers added 12 points. Kabir Sihota had six boards and Jacob French added five boards.
Sac High had a chance to win it in the waning minutes, but French stole the ball with 1.1 seconds, got fouled and hit one of two free throws to ice it.
Kendahl Hearn and Simarius Jones both had 14 points for the Dragons.
Benicia is at Vanden on Tuesday.
