Beekmantown High School girls flag football turned a loss to start their season into a big win in their second game. “It’s amazing to come out and grab a win,” said Beekmantown sophomore wide receiver Grace McCasland. “We’re learning, we’re building up and we’re doing big things.”In Section VII’s first edition of the flag football Apple Bowl, Beekmantown cruised to a 52-0 win over Peru High School. The victory came a bit sweeter for the Eagles, knowing it was against their rival Nighthawks. “It’s amazing, especially (winning) against Peru since they’re our rivals,” said Beekmantown sophomore quarterback Payton Parliament. Parliament tossed five passing touchdowns in the win, while also converting two interceptions into touchdowns to open the game to a 12-0 lead. McCasland also added a pick-six to expand the Eagles’ lead to 19-0, with her squad never trailing from there. “We really picked up our defense,” McCasland said. “Just us not being nervous, getting after it and doing what we needed to do.”Beekmantown will look to keep its winning ways going against Saranac High School on Friday, May 5, at 7 p.m.Peru will have a bye week before they travel to face Saranac on Friday, May 12, at 4:30 p.m.
