The team’s championship-winning inaugural season was sponsored by the Eagles, but with PIAA recognition two years off, they need support.
ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — Last year, a group of girls in the Abington School District made waves by fielding the district’s first flag football team, and took it all the way to the state championship where they came out on top.
Now, in their second year, the team needs some support.
According to parents of players, the team will not be entitled to funding as Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association recognition is two years off.
After being sponsored by the Philadelphia Eagles last year and with no state recognition (which allows the district to fund the program), parents are looking to bring on sponsors.

“So, in the meantime, for this year, we have to come up with our own money for equipment, jerseys, expenses, etc., which totals about $3k for the season,” player parent Paul Jarmul told Patch. “So, we started reaching out to a few local Abington businesses to sponsor the team. We have a couple of sponsors.”
Despite the existing sponsorships, the team still could use more support.

“We’re looking to local businesses — and will publicize your generosity so others know you stepped up to support girls sports and this extraordinary group of winners,” a sponsorship flyer reads. “Please become a team sponsor.”
Any donation is appreciated by the team and its supporters.
Several sponsorship levels are available with varying perks.
