The Maine Girls Flag Football League is growing bigger each year
The league was founded in 2016 by coach Mony Hang. He’s this week’s Community Champion.

The Maine Girls Flag Football League started small — just six girls signed up in 2016 under the mentorship of coach Mony Hang. Since then, enthusiasm and participation in the league has grown a lot. Once Hang saw how much team camaraderie the girls showed both on and off the field, he knew he wanted to expand the program. In 2021, the league boasts 12 teams, two divisions, coaches, sponsors and 100 girls who suit up every Saturday morning. Now Hang’s once humble program touts a league of their own. “My goal is to now reach out to other communities and get more kids involved,” said Hang. “We’re non profit, we have scholarships for kids, don’t worry about financing.
