GENERAL

Zumba classes

The Summer 2021 Zumba registration is now for Martinsburg/Berkeley County Parks and Registration.

Twenty-two classes cost $42.

The classes will be held on Mondays and Wednesday evenings at the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center, 273 Woodbury Ave., Martinsburg.

There are two sessions, one indoor and one outdoor.

Those 13-17 must register with an adult.

There is a 5:30-6:33 p.m. session that will be held in the large dance room of the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center.

The outdoor session will be held from 6:45-7:45 p.m. at the side parking lot of the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center.

Coaching classes

West Virginia Secondary School coaching classes will take place over three different weekends in June, July and August at Spring Mills High School.

Students must attend both weekend sessions.

On June 5, it will run 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on June 6, it’ll be 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Sunday, 6/6/21–10:00 AM to 4:30 PM

On July 17, it will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on June 18, it will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Aug. 13, it will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The classes will take place in the library. Parking is in the north lot, adjacent to the stadium.

Interested individuals must apply online at WVSSAC.org. Walk-ins are not permitted.

Yoga classes

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registrations for yoga.

This class runs year round and takes place from 9:45-10:45 a.m. on Wednesdays.

Preregistration is required. Cost is $32 per person per month.

Silver Sneakers

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks and Recreation is currently accepting registrations for Silver Sneakers for ages 55 and up.

This class is covered by some insurances.

The classes take place from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The fee for those whose insurance doesn’t cover the cost is $20 per month for two days a week, or $30 per month for three days a week.

Racquetball

Senior players are wanted for racquetball.

There are no fees.

FOOTBALL

Flag football camp

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is now accepting registration for the Youth Flag Football Camp for boys and girls ages 6-9.

The camp will be held at the Moose field next to the Berkeley 2000 Recreation Center (parking in rear lot.) The camp dates are June 27, June 29, running from 5:45-7:15pm

Registration is filled on a first come first serve basis, and pre-registration is required to attend this clinic. The clinic is limited to the first 16 registrants. The registration fee is $40 per participant.

GOLF

Black Rock Junior Series

Junior golfers will have an opportunity to get in some extra competition during the early part of summer with the advent of the Black Rock Junior Golf Series.

To be held at Black Rock Golf Course in Hagerstown, there will be five weeks of golf. There are events on June 9, 16, 23 and 30. It will conclude with the championship on July 14.

The Junior Golf Series is open to all golfers, including those outside of Washington County, Maryland, who will compete in the age 16-18 division and in the 14-15 age division. The cutoff date for anyone that will be 18 is June 2 to be eligible.

Cost for the complete series is $150 and registration deadline is June 2.

Players will golf 18 holes walking, and a player with a medical exemption must have a doctor’s note.

Boys will play from the white tees and girls from the red tees.

Prizes will be award in both divisions to first- and second-place finishers in the first four events and to the top four in each division of the championship. To be eligible for the championship, golfers must play in three of the four rounds in June.

BASKETBALL

Summer leagues

Martinsburg-Berkeley County Parks & Recreation is now accepting registration for the 2021 Summer Basketball Leagues.

The deadline for registration is May 28. The registration will be open online until May 31. However, any registrations received after May 28 will incur a $10 late fee.

Summer basketball is open to boys entering grades 1-12 and girls entering grades 1-8, for the 2021/2022 school year.

The registration fee is $65 for Berkeley County residents and $75 for non-residents and there is a $5 discount for siblings when registering two or more children in the same family.

WEIGHT LIFTING

The Power Pit has announced the Beast of the East Power Lifting Meet 2021 will take place 10 a.m. Saturday at the Eagles Club, 700 Baker Lane, Winchester.

There are 14 events, myriad weight classes for men and women and a category for fire, police and military.

Cost is $70 per event, with a $30 charge to cross over.

Weigh-ins take place 5-7 p.m. on May 21 and 7-9 a.m. Saturday.
