The Super 7 State Football Championships are back in Birmingham for the first time since 2008. You know what that means, watching the best of the best of Alabama high school football.
Come out to Protective Stadium on Dec. 1-3 to watch Alabama high schools big and small battle it out on the field. Oh, and did we mention that the inaugural Girls’ Flag Football Tournament championship will be going down as well? Yep, this is something you don’t want to miss. We’ve got all the details for you, from the teams competing this year to how to watch the games.
“Friday Night Lights” all week long
What do you think of when you hear “Friday Night Lights?” I think of sitting under big stadium lights and cheering on my beloved high school team. If you’re in need of a nostalgic high school football moment or just love a good football game, you won’t want to miss the Super 7 State Football Championships.
Every Winter over the course of three days, the Alabama High School Athletic Association hosts this high school football state championships event. The final two teams from each of Alabama’s seven classifications (1A through 7A) conclude the season by competing for the highest honor: the state championship trophy.
This year, the event kicks off with a historical moment: the first girls’ flag football tournament championship.
Here’s the schedule + competition for this year:
- Dec. 1 at 3PM: Girls’ flag football—Hewitt-Trussville vs. Smiths Station
- Dec. 1 at 7PM: 7A—Thompson vs. Central-Phenix City
- Dec. 2 at 11AM: 3A—Piedmont vs. Montgomery Academy
- Dec. 2 at 3PM: 1A—Sweet Water vs. Wadley
- Dec. 2 at 7PM: 5A—Pike Road vs. Pleasant Grove
- Dec. 3 at 11AM: 4A—Oneonta vs. Vigor
- Dec. 3 at 3PM: 2A—Clarke County vs. Cleveland
- Dec. 3 at 7PM: 6A—Hueytown vs. Clay-Chalkville
These games are going to be as gripping as the Iron Bowl this past weekend.
The games are happening from Dec. 1-3. All eight games will be live-streamed on the AHSAA TV Network or you can buy tickets online to watch in person at the newly built Protective Stadium (the best way to watch the games). The Bham Now team will be attending the games this year and posting highlights of fans all week long.
