Add flag football to the long list of events involving the Sun Bowl Association. Today, they announced a partnership with the Southwest Flag Football League for a three-day tournament in August.
“The Sun Bowl Association is always striving to produce events for the community as well as providing some positive economic impact for our city,” Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas said in the official release. “We are anticipating drawing many out of town teams to participate and compete against our local teams in this new and exciting event that is open to both men and women alike.”
The inaugural Sun Bowl Flag Football Tournament will be held August 20-22 at the Westside Sports Complex, with men’s (recreational, intermediate, competitive), women’s (competitive), and co-ed (recreational) divisions. The 8 on 8 tournament will consist of rosters with 14 players. Every competitor will receive a t-shirt and trophies will be awarded to all first place teams.
In addition, cash prizes ranging from $1,000 to $4,000 will be awarded depending on tournament bracket size and competition level. All entry fees are $300, which includes a referee and the deadline to register is when each bracket fills up or July 30th, whichever comes first.
The Sun Bowl Association has launched a microsite for the flag football tournament, which has all the details and a link to register.
