WARSAW — Special Olympic Kosciusko County athletes competed in the Eunice Kennedy Schriver Games in Indianapolis Sunday, Oct. 1. The EKS games are multi-sport events during the month of October. Golf, equestrian, softball, volleyball, soccer, corn toss and flag football are competitions held.

The corn toss competition took place at Grand Park in Westfield. The flag football tournament took place at Brebeuf Preparatory School in Indianapolis.

Results of the corn toss are:

21 feet team competition

  • Sabrina Turner/ Robert Svinarich: Gold Medal
  • Elizabeth Wabol/ Amy Morris: Silver Medal
  • Brian Bierly/ Martha Sullivan: Silver Medal
  • Billie Holtz/ Walter Holtz: Silver Medal
  • Christina Messer/ Stephen Troyer: Silver Medal
  • Ruby French/ Gale Vanator: Silver Medal
  • Teri Hughes/ Malika Wood: Silver Medal
  • Austin Breeden/ Adam Little: Fourth Place

30 feet team competition

  • Scott Frush/ Mike Parker: Gold Medal
  • Norm McPeak/ Morgan Swafford: Gold Medal

Ruby Mock, Ron Taylor, Steve Slater, Kathy Kumfer and Cheryl Lewis also received participation ribbons.

Joe Baranowski and Lucinda Conley coached the corn toss athletes.

The Kosciusko County Panthers flag football team won the silver medal in the Purple flight. Team members included: Mike Bousman, Matt Bammel, Amy Philson, Timothy Warner-Guile, Kevin McPeak, Zeus Leonard, Justin Miller, Chris Cole and Gage Sellers.

The Panthers defeated the Porter County Force, 31-29 in a close first game. In the championship match up, the Panthers lost to the Madison County Hawks, 56-38 in a high-scoring contest.

First year flag football coach, Jeff Miller did an excellent job with the team.

Matt Bammel, participated in area golf competition. Kyle Cripe, participated in the golf your and individual 9-hole event, winning at the state tournament in both.
