There are many who make the New Year’s resolution to lose weight, and there are many ways to go about it. HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital has some tools to help.
The first Bariatric Surgery Pre-Op Readiness Virtual Class takes place Thursday (Jan. 5) from 10 a.m. to noon. This class is for anyone planning on having weight loss surgery. Instructor Erika Jubitana goes over a pre-op checklist and will guide you on where to go in the hospital on your surgery day. Jubitana also covers dietary requirements (before surgery, in the hospital and after discharge). Vitamins, supplements and life style modifications to help you succeed on your weight loss journey will also be discussed.
Another virtual class, Weight Loss Surgery Support Group meets today from 1-5 p.m. Weight loss surgery improves health and quality of life, but it requires a lot of work on your part. This support group is for anyone who either had or is interested in having bariatric surgery.
Another online seminar is: Can I Eat This! – Fitting Food Cravings in Your Bariatric Diet. This class will be held on Monday, Jan. 9 from 1-2 p.m. This class is for those who have had weight loss surgery and need to learn what to eat and not to eat after surgery. For this class, you’ll write down at least five foods you’re wondering you can eat after surgery. Together the class will research the nutritional value of your foods and use the MyFitnessPal food tracking app.
Finally, Decoding Weight Loss will be held at the Hospital’s Poinciana Room, 1st floor. Learn about the science in losing weight: calories burned must be greater than calories consumed. During this workshop, you will learn how to read food labels, use a food scale and track your calories and nutrients using MyFitnessPal app.

Spring Little League Baseball 2023 registration is now open. Poinciana Little League registration fee is $150 per player and includes the team jersey, hat and socks. Staying with sports, Poinciana Youth Flag Football has decided to take their intramural flag football model and apply it to soccer. Registration for this soccer league is $125. Intramural Poinciana Youth Soccer League is for boys and girls ages 4-14. The season runs Jan. 9 to March 25.
