Packers to host Salute to Service flag football tournament Oct. 9

As part of the organization’s Salute to Service efforts, the Green Bay Packers are hosting a flag football tournament for five teams, featuring several branches of the military, on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the football field at Titletown. The Packers’ Salute to Service initiative is presented by Fleet Farm.

Fans and community members are welcome to attend the event, which will begin with a special flag presentation along with nonprofit organization Honor and Remember at 9:20 a.m. The flag presentation will honor eight Gold Star families from Wisconsin who have lost a loved one while serving in the military or as a result of their service.

Following the flag presentation, singer Roxie Raykovich from Bloomer, Wis., will perform the national anthem, and the American Legion Post 11 will present the colors. During the anthem, two skydivers from Team Fastrax out of Middletown, Ohio, will perform a jump and parachute down to the field while carrying an American flag and the Honor and Remember flag, which includes more than 300 signatures from Gold Star families.

The tournament begins at 10 a.m. with round robin matchups between the Air Force and Army teams on the east side of the field, and Army National Guard and Navy on the west side of the field, with Marines having a bye in the first round.

Round robin play will end at 1:15 p.m., with the single elimination tournament beginning at 1:25 p.m. The winning team’s morale fund will also receive a $2,500 donation, and the runner-up will receive a $1,500 donation from the Packers. The third through fifth place teams will all receive a $500 donation.

Bleachers will be available for fans, and Titletown’s tables and chairs will be available for use. No carry-in furniture or folding chairs are permitted.

The donations are possible through the NFL’s 2021 Salute to Service Team Program Grant through the NFL Foundation.
