Montgomery Catholic girls flag football fall in overtime at AHSAA football championship

TUSCALOOSA — The Class 1A/5A girls flag football championship kicked off the Super 7 AHSAA football championships Wednesday afternoon, with the Montgomery Catholic Knights matching up against the Wenonah Dragons.

Catholic’s Jehle Dickson two touchdown passes was not enough as the Knights fell to the Dragons 18-12 in overtime.

Wenonah started the game by intercepting Dickson’s pass, setting up the games first touchdown of the day. After back-to-back punts to begin the first quarter, Haley Ishman intercepted a Wenonah pass to close out the first quarter. Ishman finished with two total interceptions in the contest.

Anna Russo commanded the following drive for the Knights with three straight receptions, placing Catholic in the red zone. On a crucial fourth down, Russo rose up and snagged in a reception for the Knights first score.
