The Packers, a seven-player flag football team of 9 and 10 year olds from Greeley and Evans, went undefeated during Greeley Recreation’s first All-Star Flag Football Bowl to win the five-team tournament July 7-9 at Monfort Park in Greeley.
The Packers outscored their opponents 152-20 in four games while averaging 38 points to earn their title. The team usually competes in the NOCO Elite Flag Football League, and are coached by siblings Manuel and Denise Rodriguez.
The Packers’ players were: Ezekiel Beltran, Alan Leyva Castillo, Jace Bengford, Luis Rubio, Jaxon Perkins, Attacuss Mendoza and Gabriel Rodriguez. All of the players were born in either 2013 or 2014.
The All-Star Bowl is an annual flag football tournament, and Greeley Recreation will host again in June 2024. Registration will open in the spring and there will be four divisions: 8 and under, 10 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under.
Teams in northern Colorado will be eligible to register and compete next year.
