A flag football tournament will take its first steps toward what is hoped to become a holiday tradition in the Santa Maria Valley on Thanksgiving day, and individual players and teams are still able to register to play.
Rise and Achieve Youth Sports and Righetti Football have partnered to create, and host, the first Ultimate Flag Football tournament at Righetti High School on Thursday, Nov. 23.
Games across four divisions are scheduled to be played on the football field at Warrior Stadium throughout Thanksgiving morning starting at 8:30 a.m.
Teams will be separated into age-based divisions — adult, high school, junior high school, fifth and sixth grade — and will face off in a bracket-style competition.
Attendees can bring a non-perishable food item to the event to enter, with all donations benefiting the Good Samaritan Shelter.
Call Coach Ray Anderson, CEO and Founder of Rise and Achieve Youth Sports, at 805-868-3633 to learn more about the event and to register a team or individual.
Rise and Achieve will also soon begin registration for their upcoming season of adult and youth flag football leagues. The leagues will be available to both men and women, with a 10-week league schedule in the plans for both spring and summer of 2024.
Look for more information about those league dates online at rayouthsports.org in the coming months. Teams or individuals interested in signing up can contact Rise and Achieve Youth Sports Advocate Jacob Antak at 661-447-0674 or Coach Ray Anderson.
