The annual Flags for the Cure flag football tournament was hosted at Wellington’s Village Park this year due to construction at its regular venue, Acreage Community Park. There were 72 teams participating during the five-day event, held Wednesday, Jan. 4 through Sunday, Jan. 8. The event also remembered those who lost their fight with cancer, as well as survivors who won their battle. At a ceremony on Saturday, Jan. 7, it was announced that Flags for the Cure had raised its highest amount to date at $40,000, bringing the event’s 16-year total funds for the American Cancer Society to $400,000.
