Boys’ weightlifting districts have been settled and many of the area’s top lifters are moving on to regionals, which start as early as today for many of the teams. The top six lifters of each weight class advanced to regionals.
The addition of the new snatch event has created more opportunities for lifters to win titles outside of the traditional weightlifting competition and for some new names to receive a spotlight
Here’s a look at who will be competing in the next round at the traditional weightlifting and snatch tournaments.

Traditional
Pine Ridge dominates, Deltona advances
The Panthers finished as the runner up in 2A District 8 with 98 points and had 10 regional qualifiers. Jason Mancuso (169 pounds) earned a title. Matthew Hummer (119) and Alex Waugh (199) were runners-up.
Deltona finished fourth in the region with 22 points and had four lifters qualify for regionals.
St. Augustine victorious in loaded district
The Yellow Jackets came out on top in 2A District 5 which featured only teams from the Volusia-Flagler-St. Johns area. Matanzas finished second overall, followed consecutively by New Smyrna Beach, Seabreeze, Tocoi Creek, Menendez and seventh-place finisher Atlantic
St. Augustine had 14 lifters qualify for regionals, including three district champions in Diego Barrera (154), Grant Johnson (199) and Jason Jackson (238).
Matanzas will have 12 lifters compete in regionals, including district champs Cameron Sleep (119) and Aiden Schissler (139)
The ‘Cudas had one district champ in Ryan Geary (129) and five runners-up. In total, NSB had nine regional qualifiers.
Dante Jones (219) of Seabreeze won a district title for the Sandcrabs. Eight of his teammates also qualified for regionals.
Fifth-place finisher Tocoi Creek had seven regional qualifiers, including runner-up in Antonio Juarez (169).
Menendez’s Cameron Cooper (unlimited), who won a title, led five other Falcons to regionals. Atlantic’s Scott Perry (169) won for the Sharks and will join two teammates at regionals.
Father Lopez, Taylor win big
The Green Wave flooded 1A District 9 to take home the team title. Father Lopez finished with 17 regional qualifiers and six individual district championships: Cole Zonca (119), Adam Utter (154), Aiden Harris (183), Jackson Oldham (199), Bryce Nemmers (219) and Antwan Scott (238)
Taylor had 18 lifters head to regionals led by district champ Tito Galarza (UNL). The Wildcats were district runners-up.
Creekside, Bartram, Nease, Ponte Vedra advance
The Knights finished third overall in 3A District 3 led by champs Andrew Feeks (119), Brighton Hardeman (169), Tanner Owens (219) and Vincent Approbato (238). Eight other lifters will compete at regionals.
Fourth-place finisher Bartram Trail had two runners-up in Chase Coomer (129) and Landon Perez (UNL). Four other lifters qualified for regionals.
Nease finished fifth and sent nine lifters to regionals. Ponte Vedra followed the Panthers in sixth place, sending two lifters to regionals.
Spruce Creek wins title, University finishes second
The blue-blooded Hawks won another district championship led by champs Luke Witkoff (129) and Elijah Walker (UNL). Spruce Creek also had four runners-up and will have 17 total lifters at regionals.
University finished behind the Hawks in 3A District 4. Champion Jacob Lowe (238) led 15 other lifters to regionals. The Titans had five runners-up.
Third-place finisher Flagler Palm Coast will have nine lifters compete at regionals including four district champions in Nick Lilavois (119), Dom Bennett (139), Wood Registe (183) and Rigens Andre (219).
DeLand, who finished fifth, will have seven lifters compete in regionals.
Snatch
Deltona, Pine Ridge shine
Deltona won the snatch title for 2A District 8 and had seven lifters advance to regionals. Brandon Rodriguez (169), Ayden Doliber (219) and Ridge Wilson (238) won titles for the Wolves. Deltona also had three second-place finishers.
Pine Ridge finished second overall and will have seven lifters compete at regionals including champs Elijah Mendez (119), Jeremiah Conner (129), William Faulk (154) and Dominic Graham (183).
Matanzas earns title in big way
The Pirates dominated with 17 regional qualifiers. Tate Winecoff (238), Zeke Flores (219), Cole Hash (183) and Aiden Schisster (139) won district titles for Matanzas.
Menendez will send 13 lifters to regionals. The Falcons’ Diego Garcia (119) and Cameron Cooper (UNL) are district champions.
Seabreeze’s Steven Taylor (199) won a title for the third-place Sandcrabs and led six other lifters to regionals. New Smyrna Beach, who finished fourth, will have five lifters compete at regionals including champs Aiden Strong (129) and Isaiah Cotton (154).
Atlantic finished fifth in Snatch. Champion Scott Perry (169) will lead five other lifters into regionals.
Taylor does well again
The Wildcats finished with six district champions: Alex Gomez (119), Eric Martinez (154), Luke Harper (169), Rudy Ocampo (183), Grant Raulerson (219) and Jose Sanchez (238). Six more lifters will compete at the Snatch regionals.
Nease wins district, other area teams advance
Seventeen Panthers advanced to regionals in Nease’s first weightlifting district championship since 2005. Individual champs Samuel Lewis (119) and Chris Dunn (199) led the Panthers, who finished with 59 points.
Bartram Trail finished as a close second with 56 points in 3A District 3. Chase Coomer (129), Brantley Thomann (139), Marcos Ramos (238) and Landon Perez (UNL) are district champions for the Bears. Twelve lifters advanced to regionals.
Ponte Vedra finished third overall and had one district champ in Drew Molinari (219). Eight other lifters will compete at regionals.
Creekside’s Bobby Goodrich (169) won a title for the fifth-place Knights. Two other lifters advanced to regionals.
University dominates, FPC finishes second
District champs Patrick King (129) and Jacob Lowe (238) will lead 18 other lifters to regionals. The Titans had four runners-up.
Flagler Palm Coast had a whopping four district champions who were Nick Lilavois (119), Ron Proctor (183), Kobe Murphy (UNL) and Dom Bennett (139). Eleven Bulldogs head to regionals.
The other Bulldogs of DeLand finished fourth overall in 3A District 4 and will have eight lifters compete at state. Rigens Andre (219) and Jaycee Kane (199) won titles.
Kevin Minkler (169), who won a title, led Spruce Creek to a fifth-place finish. Jojo Torres (119) and Collin Drewry (199) will move on to regionals with Minkler.
