The village is recognizing the 150-year anniversary of its incorporation in 1873. The first village council meeting took place in May 1873 with an election of a council. Jason Hemenway was elected the village’s first president. Deerfield, however, was actually founded in 1825 as Kedzie’s Grove by William Kedzie, a Scottish immigrant who had been living in New York.

The name of the community was changed to Deerfield in the mid-1830s at the suggestion of Ephraim Clark due to the bountiful deer in the area by a vote of a majority of the handful of families living in the town.
Addison’s Heritage Days Festival today
ADDISON — From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, experience a “small town vibe” and share in the celebrations of Addison’s history “with a fresh perspective” during the village’s third annual Heritage Days Festival.
Complete with crafters, vendors, food trucks, bounce houses and a petting zoo, there will be a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy about Addison, a flyer for the event said.
A karaoke contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., and at dusk is a villagewide fireworks show. Face painting, a cornhole tournament, a softball tournament, softball throw competition, tractor show and a all day DJ are also some of the highlights for the day.
Nearly all planned events will be in the village’s downtown.
