Fantasy Football QB1 Primer: Week 11 (2021)

Week 11 will feature some interesting names starting at quarterback around the league, as the likes of Joe Flacco and… Tim Boyle (?) will be starting for the equally pathetic New York Jets and Detroit Lions this weekend.

I promise you, neither of these quarterbacks will be mentioned in this week’s primer. But, honestly, if you’re that desperate for a quarterback that either of these two guys are options, then you might be better off leaving your starting spot vacant. Let’s get to some names that can make an impact in Week 11.

Week 10 Recap

Mid-Range Options

Matthew Stafford (QB – LAR): QB17 in Week 10

Carson Wentz (QB – IND): QB24 in Week 10

Derek Carr (QB – LV): QB7 in Week 10

Thankfully, Carr got us on the board. Stafford might benefit from getting his head out of his rear end during the bye week. As for Wentz, I’m not surprised when he disappoints me anymore. He receives a tailor-made matchup against a lousy Jaguars secondary, and he throws for 180 yards. Insane.

Streaming Options

Matt Ryan (QB – ATL): QB33 in Week 10

Ben Roethlisberger (QB – PIT): DNP

Trevor Lawrence (QB – JAX): QB20 in Week 10

Sorry. That’s all I have to say about these streaming calls. Matt Ryan just flat-out stunk. Roethlisberger didn’t play due to COVID. And Lawrence can’t seem to produce against anyone and seems outmatched in the NFL.

Week 11 Mid-Range Passers with QB1 Upside

Ryan Tannehill (QB – TEN): QB12 ECR

This is another tricky weak for mid-range passers. Tannehill gets a Houston defense that will sit back, play Cover 2 and prevent big plays. However, Tannehill is good enough to carve this defense up. He’ll need to be efficient, but I’m confident he’ll get us on the board.

Tom Brady (QB – TB): QB5 ECR

In a week where the mid-range options are thin, let’s throw the greatest QB ever to play in. Brady has to be fuming after his poor performance against Washington. While I’m a little worried about Brady in primetime and past his bedtime, I’m expecting a big bounce back against the Giants.

Week 11 Streaming Options

Cam Newton (QB – CAR): QB15 ECR

In a couple of leagues, I’ve been faced with having to replace Stafford on his bye week, and Newton’s been my choice in both of them. Keep in mind. I’m pretty nervous about this. Newton scored a couple of times last week against Arizona and proclaimed he’s back. But he only threw the ball four times. And I’m still worried his shoulder isn’t 100%. At least he’ll have Christian McCaffrey to check down too, plus a matchup against a Washington defense giving up the most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs. I’m rolling with Cam, but I’m scared.

Tua Tagovailoa (QB – MIA): QB16 ECR

Tua would’ve been my primary choice, but he wasn’t available in either of the leagues I’m in. However, if you can get Tua off waivers, do it right now. Tagovailoa is a more known commodity at this point than Newton is. Plus, he faces a Jets defense that can’t stop a youth flag football team and has some of the worst cornerbacks in the league. Tua-to-Waddle could be a great DFS stack too.

Daniel Jones (QB – NYG): QB20 ECR

Here we go again. Danny Dimes is on the road on a Monday night with a great matchup on paper. It worked out so well for us against the last time we did this against Kansas City. That was sarcasm. Hopefully, Jones can benefit from an extra week to prepare against a Buccaneers secondary that’s struggled mightily all season.

Baker Mayfield (QB – CLE): QB24 ECR

Mayfield is my last resort on this list. He said himself that this is the most beat-up he’s ever been in his career. Honestly, the Browns should probably sit him. The hope here is that Mayfield can cash in on a couple of touchdowns against a porous Detroit defense. If you’ve got no other options, Mayfield’s a better alternative than Tim Boyle.
