DeBary Mayor Karen Chasez plans to run for a second term.
Chasez shared her decision at the end of Wednesday night’s City Council meeting.
“Many of my constituents have inquired as to my intentions this election year,” Chasez, 68, said before confirming she would run again.
No challengers have filed as of Thursday.
Chasez, a retired executive who moved to DeBary with her husband in 2008, first ran for office in 2018. She became the sole qualified candidate that July when challenger Louis Sweet withdrew.
The mayor said she feels very good about what the council and city staff have achieved during the past few years.
She pointed to the creation of a vision for development around the city’s SunRail station as one of the notable achievements.

“There are still many things to be done, so after weighing it very carefully, I decided I would offer my services once again,” Chasez said by phone Thursday.
