The Carolina Panthers are hosting the team’s inaugural Girls’ High School Flag Football Jamboree Saturday, October 30. Six local high schools – Chambers, Charlotte Catholic, Hough, Nation Ford, Northwestern and South Pointe – will compete on the Bank of America Stadium game field in a 5 vs. 5 tournament format. The event is designed to provide female student-athletes with a competition-level experience in this fast-growing sport.
NFL Flag executive director Izell Reese will be in attendance and provide information to schools about the success girls’ high school flag football is experiencing on a national level. Currently, six states, including Alabama, Florida and Georgia have sanctioned girls’ flag football as a varsity sport. In addition, select colleges and universities in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) have begun offering scholarships for the sport.
Panthers Legend Mike Rucker will give a pre-tournament message to the players.
“The Carolina Panthers are pleased to partner with these local schools for the team’s inaugural Girls’ High School Flag Football Jamboree,” said Panthers director of community relations Riley Fields. “The Panthers and the NFL are committed to providing access for girls to participate and experience the sport of flag football. We are looking forward to providing teams with this memorable NFL-style opportunity.”
