The Brant and District Football Club plans to run an option play this spring.
In a normal year, the Bisons would be gearing up for the start of their spring tackle football season but, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization has decided to offer flag football.
“Even though there’s been no official announcement, in the current provincial colour-coding scheme there is no pathway back to contact football,” said Jason Nagy, the club’s president.
“Even if you’re in green, those restrictions do not allow for contact football. Things would have to drastically change before we return to a regular tackle football season.”
The last time the Bisons offered tackle football was in the fall of 2019. Since the pandemic hit in early 2020, the organization has been looking at how to get its players back on the field.
At its annual general meeting in January, the idea of offering flag football in the spring was discussed and received largely positive reviews.
