Bishop Verot student goes viral for play in flag football game

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Gabby Tuffo woke up Friday morning to her phone completely “blowing up.”

Tuffo had just played as a senior in her school’s annual powderpuff flag football game the day before.

Never could the Bishop Verot High School student imagine millions would witness a play she made in the game.

“Kind of shocked. I thought if I were to go viral, it would be for something completely different. Not for a 10-second video of me playing flag-football,” explained Tufffo.

However, a huge block made by Tuffo in the game against her opponent has garnered millions of views on social media.

“I have never had to handle anything like this,” Tuffo said. “Especially, with all these comments and everyone asking ‘what’s the back story?’ I just didn’t really know what to do. It was not intentional at all and I made that very clear. Me and this girl were just having fun and she knows me, she knows that that is just how I play.”

Tuffo is hoping to continue her soccer career next year in college at the Divison I level and wants to someday become a sport’s journalist.
