Hello, hello. It’s me, Jeri Karges, your host of the Roseville Daily — here to impart all the most important things happening in town.
First, today’s weather:
Plenty of sunshine. High: 93 Low: 59.
Here are the top five stories in Roseville today:
- The Wall of Recognition, dedicated on the 125th anniversary of Rocklin’s incorporation was created to recognize and permanently commemorate persons, families, business entities, and community groups making significant contributions to the city. These contributions, in a variety of ways, help shape the character, history, culture and identity of Rocklin. It’s time to nominate your choice for a person or organization for this year’s Rocklin Wall of Recognition. Nominations are due by Sunday, August 7, and can be submitted online. (rocklin.ca.us)
- On December 3, 2020, while on probation, Anthony Pintarelli, age 25 assaulted an elderly man and took the victim’s personal items when he attempted to call 9-1-1 to report Pintarelli’s reckless driving. On Thursday, Pintarelli was sentenced to 13 years and eight months in the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation for his crime. “While all violent crimes are abhorrent, crimes against our senior citizens are particularly heinous,” said Deputy District Attorney Shannon Quigley. “This defendant chose to brutally attack and rob a vulnerable elderly man. It is because of the victim’s bravery and composure in the wake of a violent attack that we were able to successfully prosecute this case and hold the defendant accountable for his actions. In Placer County, we will not tolerate any abuse committed against our elderly citizens.” (Roseville Today)
- Unfortunately, another individual has succumbed to the waters near Folsom, making four this year. Eric Riley, 37, was riding jet skis with his cousin and her husband on July 2 in Granite Bay. One of the other riders fell off of their jet ski and Riley jumped in to help. He was not wearing a life jacket. Good Samaritans in a boat nearby were able to rescue the rider that fell into the water, who was wearing a life vest, but Riley slipped below the surface. His body was found Friday morning. - After 30 years, Sheriff Devon Bell served his final day with the Placer County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. According to this Gold Country Media article, “Bell announced his intention to retire in February, citing a medical condition with his back and reprioritizing his health.” “Ladies and gentlemen, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve with all of you. Thank you, be safe, God bless,” Bell said as a final address to deputies and allied agency officers. (Gold Country Media)
