Here are the top three stories in Fredericksburg today:

  1. The Stafford Sheriff’s Office is waiting for a medical examiner’s report to confirm if the remains found near Falmouth Bridge in Stafford belong to a missing county man named David Hartnett. Hartnett, 57, has been missing since April 20, and there have been various search efforts to locate him. A family member discovered the remains in the vicinity of the Falmouth Bridge. The investigation is ongoing, and updates may follow. (
  2. On Saturday, a self-defense class specifically designed for the blind and visually impaired will be held in Fredericksburg. Certified instructor Master Shu Amun will teach basic training and self-defense techniques using scientific street fighting. The class aims to help participants improve their exercise routine, and gain security, confidence, and self-knowledge. The event is a fundraiser for Volunteers for the Blind, a local organization that provides support to the blind community. A donation is requested for participation, and additional activities such as a concession stand, bake sale, and raffle will be available. (
  3. A man wanted for domestic assault and battery barricaded himself inside a home in Stafford County, Virginia. After the suspect refused to exit the residence, police flew two drones into the home, prompting the suspect to surrender. The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office has been using drones since 2017 for various police activities, including locating suspects and documenting crime scenes. Nearby homes were evacuated, and the street was temporarily closed during the incident. (Fredericksburg Patch)
